AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF REPUBLIC OF SERBIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COOPERATION

On April 23rd, 2010 a bilateral agreement on science and technology cooperation was signed by Bozidar Djelic, Minister of Science and Technological Development on behalf of the Government of Serbia and by Maria Otero, Under Secretary of the Department of State on behalf of the United States of America.

The purposes of the Agreement, which is the first of its kind since 1980, is to strengthen the scientific and technological capabilities of both countries, to broaden and expand relations between the extensive scientific and technological communities, and to promote scientific and technological cooperation in areas of mutual benefit for peaceful purposes.

Priority will be given to collaborations that can advance common science and technology goals, support partnerships between public and private research institutions and industry, and engage the scientific enterprise on such matters as the promotion of science-based decision-making, environmental and biodiversity protection, agriculture, the promotion of science-based decision-making, environmental and biodiversity protection, agriculture, including food technologies, energy, including renewable energy technologies, space, global stewardship, HIV/AIDS and other health issues, science and technology education, engineering, sustainable development, information technology, biotechnology, water management, renewable energy technologies, nanotechnology, material science, and basic research in fields of physical and life sciences.

The cooperation of the research and technology communities of both countries will be conducted through exchanges of ideas, information, skills, and technologies; exchanges of researchers, scientists, engineers, and other technical experts; the convening of joint seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings; training and enhancing the skills of researchers, scientists, engineers, and technical experts; the conduct of joint research projects and studies; the establishment of science-based public-private partnerships.
